Money education for children & teenagers

We often get asked by parents and carers on our Money Skills workshops if we offer money education courses or resources for children and teenagers. It’s a great question, and we’re always encouraged to hear of those who want to equip their children in this way.

Crosslight’s Money Skills courses are focused on adults, as that’s our area of specialism, but there are lots of excellent resources aimed at children out there - we’ve rounded up some of them here, along with some information for practitioners and professionals working with children and families to support them in this area.

For parents & carers

Part of the Life Skills series, Barclays has some great money education resources for children, teenagers and young adults: browse their Young People hub and Families section for inspiration.

For guidance on ways parents and carers can talk to children about money, try QSA’s resources (also available in Bangla)

QSA’s Made of Money programme has unfortunately recently closed down due to funding issues, but their Money Springboard resources are still available online. These include ‘ten things to know about money’ for children aged 11, 14 & 16, as well as suggestions for ways to give pocket money for maximum benefit.

For students, the Money Charity’s Student Money Manual is an excellent resource (free to download) for prospective and existing college and university students.

For support workers and practitioners

Barclays Life Skills has some useful resources for those supporting others: see ‘I'm here to help others’ for their content

Metrobank has a financial capability programme for children in years 4-8 that schools can sign up to: Welcome to Metro Bank's Kids Zone

Money Ready (who were previously MyBnk) offer a range of fully funded financial education workshops for children and young adults, delivered in-person or online.

The Lifesavers programme offers free financial education training & resources to primary schools

Natwest’s Thrive programme has resources for use by those teaching children age 5 - 18 about money

The Money Charity also offer workshops for young people (free for state-funded schools and colleges as well as most community organisations), as well as downloadable financial education resources for use with children.

Please do let us know if you come across any other programmes or resources aimed at equipping children and young people with money management skills - we’d love to hear from you!
